Google

  • Excluding brand in PMax is finally available
  • Covid-19 related ads are allowed once again
    • Google has given the green light to ads featuring terms related to Covid-19. This includes advertisements for specific varieties of facemasks and associated products and services.
  • Google updated spam form report
    • Google extended spam reporting options with paid links, low quality, inappropriate behavior and others. But it will also start ignoring repetitive identical reports from the same user so your options to see justice done shrinks.
  • Fight with fake reviews continues. At court.
    • Good news to all honest businesses. Google sues a company which created more than 14.000 fake reviews transforming its earlier promises into action.

Bing

  • Chrome - Bing integration is close
    • Microsoft is working on integrating it’s Bing chat to all browsers including Chrome or Safari. Cutting Bing’s dependency on Edge could be once-again game-changing.
  • Voice chat for desktop is on
    • Click on microphone and ask your question. New Bing chat feature for desktops might make your search easier. Now available in English, Mandarin, French, Japanese and German.

AI marketing

  • Amazon will start summarizing user reviews
    • This might be tricky, but if implemented well it can really make it easy for you to get the one honest summarized review for any product on Amazon.

ChatGPT

  • Reveal ChatGPT generated text with 99 % accuracy
    • Scientists claim that they have found a way to identify ChatGPT generated scientific papers with 99 % accuracy. This could have lots of implications including SEO and deranking AI generated content on sites.

Bard

  • Bard can use your current location
    • Get more relevant results by letting Bard use your device's current location. You can enable this in your location settings.
  • EU launch delayd amid EU regulations

Social media

  • Meta might need to block press news
    • Canadian Online News Act might force Meta to either block press news or pay publishers for content. Meta is testing the first variant for now.
  • Reddit raised it’s API price and it didn’t go well
    • Reddit strike and more. Reddit raised it’s API price and users are not really happy about it. So if your community on Reddit went dark, it’s probably part of the strike. It’s been 3 weeks and still no good news for Reddit. Likewise..
  • In reaction to Reddit blackou, Google introduced new feature called perspectives
  • Meta unlike Reddit extends it’s API options
    • Instagram content creators can now use Content Publishing API to publish content through 3rd party platforms.
  • Advantage+ shopping campaigns in Meta are not doing well
    • Advantage+ campaigns powered with AI should have made campaigns results better and work easier. But that just didn’t happen and advertisers are not convinced despite Meta efforts. Neither am I. Been there, done that, not worth it. For now.
  • Meta verified is official
    • Meta is officially launching its Meta verified by expanding with it to all regions. Prices start at 11,99 USD and you will get dedicated account support and other features.

Marketing stats

  • Reviews are becoming meaningless
    • Uber or Airbnb US users are handing out 5 stars like sugar candy with no need to really deserve it. This trend might make starring irrelevant. So you better take more time to read carefully those written ones.
  • Snapchat reaches 15M active users in Germany
    • Globally snapchat has 750M monthly active users. Germany is growing in numbers and not only thanks to generation Z with more than 40 % of them being 25+ years old.
  • 45 % of YT screen time in US happens on TV.

Online privacy and security

  • Safari will block url trackers
    • Beside other updates like locking browser windows or blocking trackers from loading, Safari will also completely remove trackers from url giving marketers really hard times.

  • Removing address in your Google Business profile is not a good idea
    • According to a small SEO experiment, removing your adress from you Google Business profile will make your local rankings go lower. So think twice before removing it.
